Manitoulin Island Cycling Advocates Manitoulin’s Premier Cycle Tourism Organization

Paved/hardtop, hilly, 52km, 3.5 hrs.,
road bike or hybrid

Park at the Community Centre at #6 & Townline Rd. On Townline Rd. head west out of the village of Sheguiandah, past the quiet waters of Bass L. and climb a series of hills until you reach the Green Bay Rd. where you make a left hand turn.

Before long the road begins to descend and takes you to an intersection. Go straight through the intersection onto the Bidwell Rd. After climbing some more hills you will come to a road on the right that leads to a lodge and cottage development.

On Bidwell Rd., you catch occasional glimpses of L. Manitou as you pass through beautiful countryside. The Bidwell Rd. ends at #6. (A side trip into Manitowaning is available at this point, if you turn right on #6 and head a few km south to the town. Manitowaning has all amenities: a museum, an old mill, a theatre and the Norisle ferry are just a few of the features of this fascinating little town on Manitowaning Bay. To the east is Wikwemikong, the only unceded reserve on the Island.)

Meanwhile, back at the junction of the Bidwell Rd. and #6, turn left (north) onto #6. Enjoy the new paved shoulders, stop for a break at High Falls and take in the beautiful prairie-like scenery on your way to Ten Mile Point with its panoramic view of the North Channel, Georgian Bay and La Cloche Mountains. The trip continues on #6 north, starting with a thrilling 2km downhill ride. (Be careful on this busy highway, because from this point on there are no paved shoulders.)

Back in Sheguiandah, you can visit the museum and old mill, swim at the dock, and enjoy a good meal.
